South Ealing Cemetery Chapels
Expression of Interest – Meanwhile Use

London Historic Buildings Trust (LHBT) are working with Ealing Council to develop an urgent repair and temporary-use project at the Grade II listed South Ealing Cemetery Chapels. These buildings are an exceptional heritage asset, and we are trying to identify any organisations or individuals that might have an interest in using and maintaining them on a temporary basis (est. up to 5 years), once the basic repairs and upgrades are completed.
Urgent Repairs Project
The project team are now scoping a package of urgent repairs that will see the buildings secured, wind and watertight. Installation and upgrades of basic amenities such as power and drainage will also be incorporated into the scheme. The buildings will be safe and useable, but only for a very simple use.
The intention is for the Chapels to be used on a temporary basis whilst plans and funding for a long-term repair project can be developed and secured.
Possible Temporary Uses
The site and intended repairs lends the Chapels to a variety of uses. For example:
- Artist studios
- Workshop space
- Exhibition space
- Community meeting space
The Chapels will need to be maintained in order to prevent them falling back into disrepair. Ideally, we would like to identify a user that could embrace that caretaker role.
Request for Feedback
We would be grateful if you could let us know if you might be interested in using the building once It has been refurbished for a basic, meanwhile use. Please contact Hannah Southgate at info@londonhistoricbuildings.org.uk, giving some information about the nature of you and your organisation, how you envisage you might use the building, and what size and type of space you would need, including any specific requirements.
Please also get in touch if you would like to discuss your ideas or the site in more detail.
Deadline for Expression of Interests is 5pm on Friday 15th July 2022.
